Winter home essentials

winter essentials 8

The days are shorter, the nights are longer and the weather is becoming brutally cold. Winter is definitely upon us. Make sure to have these seasonal home essentials to get you ready for whatever winter throws your way!

Snowstorms can come on quickly. Make sure to have the appropriate snow removal tools in your home and in your car. Keep a good quality shovel handy and the snow blower full of gas. It’s also smart to have salt or sand to sprinkle on walkways in front of, and leading up to, your home. Don’t forget to also make sure you have a snowbrush in your car!

Pillow and blankets

Frigid temperatures can tempt us to crank up the heat, which can lead to unnecessary extra costs, especially when you are heating the whole home for one or two rooms. Definitely keep the home at a comfortable temperature but when the chill hits, throw on a super-warm sweater, wrap yourself up in a cosy blanket, or turn on the fireplace for winter warmth.

Extra pantry items

We never know what winter will throw at us, but if history is a predictor then we will at least get a couple of major snowstorms – where being snowed in is actually the safest choice. You don’t want to run to the grocery store in the middle of a storm! Be prepared by packing some essentials in your pantry – canned goods, extra water, snacks, etc. and don’t sweat the storm!

Improve winter air quality

Humidifiers make all the difference to a home in the winter. They help to fight germs, prevent coughs and soothe dry skin. They can even help to keep house plants alive by giving them extra moisture to absorb. They come in a variety of sizes to suit your home’s needs, whether it be to humidify your whole home or small enough to keep on your desk at work.

With these winter home essentials, you’ll stay warm and cosy throughout this chilly season.
