Buying a house is a huge undertaking and it is easy to get caught up in all of the things that need to be done. To make sure you are buying a house that’s right for you, consider asking your Realtor these questions.
1. Why is the house being sold?
This is a great question to ask because it can give you a good idea on how negotiating might work. If the owner is selling because they are relocating to a new job, they might be looking to sell much quicker.
2. What is included in the sale of the house?
It’s important to know what is included in the sale to help determine its value or what other expenses you can expect. Ask about the kitchen appliances, washer, dryer, or even the chandelier and garden shed. It varies from owner to owner so be sure to ask.
3. How many owners have lived here or how long have the current owners been in the home?
If there is quick turnover in the house or the current owners have only lived there a short time, there could be a reason. Take the time to find out why to avoid the hassle of dealing with it after you have already made the purchase.
4. What is the neighbourhood like?
Find out what amenities are nearby and what the schools are like. Take some time to look into transportation, crime rates, and community events. These things can tell you a lot about the neighbourhood and if it is somewhere you would be happy to live.
5. Have there been any recent upgrades?
By finding out about upgrades to your home you can find out a little more about issues that have happened and also get an idea of what upgrades you may have to make in the future. Be sure to ask your Realtor about the driveway, windows, plumbing, roof, and furnace as these can be the most costly fixes and upgrades to a home.
Don’t be afraid to ask too many questions when looking for your new home. It is a big investment and you’ll want to make sure you know exactly what you’re getting into so that you can feel happy, relaxed and prepared as you make the move.
